Wimbledon 2025: Sabalenka Advances, Paolini Exits
Wimbledon, July 2, 2025 — Italian star Jasmine Paolini is out of Wimbledon 2025 after a tough second-round loss, but Aryna Sabalenka is keeping her eyes on the prize and moving ahead.
Paolini, who recently made headlines with her strong performances, couldn’t hold on against Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova. After winning the first set, Paolini lost momentum and went down 4–6, 6–4, 6–4. The match was full of energy, but Rakhimova’s consistency proved too strong in the end.
Meanwhile, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka faced a tough challenge of her own but handled it like a champion. She played against Marie Bouzkova and won 7–6(4), 6–4. At one point, Sabalenka was just two points from losing the first set—but she fought back hard and stayed calm under pressure.
In her post-match interview, Sabalenka joked about the number of early upsets this year:
“I hope there are no more upsets in this tournament… if you know what I mean,” she said with a smile.
With Paolini’s exit, four of the top five women’s seeds have now been knocked out: Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Zheng Qinwen, and now Paolini. Only Sabalenka remains from the top five, and she’s looking more focused than ever.
As Wimbledon moves into the third round, Sabalenka is in a strong position and determined not to let surprises get in her way.

Sabalenka will face her third-round opponent later this week, as she continues her push for the Wimbledon title.
